Grant Thornton Scotland Returner Programme

Location: Glasgow or Edinburgh

Sector: Financial services

Programme: 16 week paid returnship (part of Finance, Legal & FinTech Returners Scotland]

Grant Thornton is the professional services firm that’s building a more vibrant economy in the UK.

Grant Thornton is excited to partner with Women Returners to support talented women to successfully return to the workplace. Join them and you’ll shape more than your own career. They are building an economy where small and medium-sized businesses have room to grow sustainably, where trust is the rule, not the exception and where no one gets left behind.  If you want to work on a wide-reaching range of projects that help businesses be purposeful as well as profitable, you’ll fit right in.

Led by a team of forward-thinking leaders, their Scottish practice continues to meet ambitious growth targets, by developing their team and service offerings. The team has a wide range of experience across a number of sectors, gained in practice and industry, ensuring that they can constantly adapt to their clients’ requirements. From large corporates to owner-managed businesses with exceptional growth potential, they are proud of the client partnerships they have established to date.

Bring your technical skills and grounding to their team

Grant Thornton has roles across both the public and commercial audit sectors and employment tax, from part qualified Associates up to Senior Managers. They are looking for women who have taken a career break of 12 months or more. You’ll have some experience of working on audits at any level, and if looking for a role at Executive level or above, you’ll be professionally qualified (ACA, CA, ACCA).

You will work on client site, getting to the heart of how they work and the challenges they face. Making the most of your experience and client management skills, you’ll help their clients mitigate risks and work more effectively. More than that, you’ll play your part in shaping a vibrant economy and contribute to making sure the whole business community is built on trust and integrity.

Do you care about the same things they do?

They have six values they work by. When you meet them, they’ll want you to show them how they’re important to you, too.

Collaboration: Clients always comment on how friendly they are. They work together with clients, share ideas and always make time to help each other out. (But they love a healthy debate, too).

Leadership: You don’t have to be the big boss to be a leader. Everyone has the chance to lead their own projects. And you could find yourself on the path to partner faster here than almost anywhere else.

Excellence: They love what they do, and it shows. They sweat the details. They see things through, no matter how tricky. And they always look for new ways to do things better

Agility: The world moves quickly. To keep up, they stay flexible – changing approaches, changing projects, working offline, online, together and alone to get things done. And if things don’t go to plan, they simply dust themselves off and try again.

Respect: A given, of course: they value each other and their clients. They listen, they understand, they care.

Responsibility: The decisions they make and advice they give affects people’s lives and livelihoods. They take that seriously and always do their best to do well by doing good.

It takes a diverse team to shape a vibrant economy

Now you’ve seen their values, it shouldn’t be a surprise that they’re creating a respectful, open, diverse place to work. Or that they’re one of the top employers in the UK’s Social Mobility Index. They treat everyone equally, they’ll value what you have to say, and they’ll do everything they can to help you do your best work with them.

There’s more to life than work

Families, sports, night classes…the things you do and the people you’re with outside work matter. They can inspire, motivate and energise you. Inside the office and out. So if you’d like to work flexibly, let them know. They’ll do their best to keep your work and life in balance.
