Successful careers are not always fluid and don’t always follow a traditional path. In collaboration with Women Returners and the Law Society, DWF is launching a brand new Law Returners Programme aimed at legal professionals (men and women) who have taken a career break of 12 months or more and who are now looking return to work in private practice and in-house legal departments. The Law Returners programme has been designed to update and refresh your experience and skills whilst also boosting your professional confidence.
If you’ve taken a career break, particularly after having taken time out to look after children or elderly/sick relatives, and are now ready for a new step on your career path, the DWF Law Returners Programme is for you!

The 6-month professionally paid placement is based in the DWF Leeds or Manchester city centre offices and will run from February 2019 onwards. The placement will offer the opportunity to work with senior stakeholders and receive internal support and mentoring to refresh your skills, and could lead to an exciting career opportunity with DWF. You will also receive expert Career Returners Coaching support from Women Returners to help you to transition successfully back into the workplace. The Law Society will provide you with technical training, informal mentoring from their Back to Law Ambassadors, networking opportunities and other legal support.
Requirements and Skills
- Currently on a professional legal career break of at least 12 months
- At least four years’ fee earning experience in a legal business, including a minimum of two years in a similar area to the one you wish to apply for.
- Keen on returning to work on a permanent basis
- Outstanding relationship building and communication skills
- Strong customer focus and an eye for problem-solving
Being admitted on the programme is based on each applicant’s experience and interests. Opportunities exist at senior PQE level across the following practice areas:
